Laser machine at Haitsma Engraving since 1996
Haitsma Engraving started in 1978 with a pantograph, and today they work with a well-equipped fleet of computers for engraving, milling machines, and both solid-state and CO2 laser machines. They began using their first Nd:YAG laser in 1996, and their first CO2 laser was acquired in 1999. Haitsma Engraving specializes not only in flatwork engraving but is also one of the few organizations that offers rotary milling, such as for ship's bells. They first mill and then lacquer them. They also engrave steel, wood, marble, and various other materials, including cremation urns, which are becoming increasingly popular as the demand grows.
Why the BRM Original 90130?
Owner Tjalling Haitsma chose the BRM 90130 primarily because of its price. The size and power—specifically, their 150W machine—were the most important factors for them. Compared to the competition, BRM stood out as the best option. “Of course, there are other brands, but their prices are completely different,” he says. Due to the attractive price, they can quickly put the machine to work for cutting specific materials. They are very satisfied with their machine and find the BRM 90130 to be a great device.
Accurate Enough for the Job
The BRM 90130 is accurate enough for the work required by Haitsma Engraving. They primarily use it for cutting acrylic, such as for casket overlays. The largest dimension they work with is 125 cm, and anything larger isn't necessary for their work. They chose a machine size that fits these dimensions, as anything larger wouldn't fit through the door due to the rebates required for this size. Additionally, they use the machine to cut small items like tables, casket supports, plaques for graves, and butterfly shapes for children's memorials. Since they maintain a stock, the machine isn't in use every day. They schedule specific days for production, and on those days, the machine runs all day long.
“De lasermachine werkt heel accuraat en dat is ideaal voor ons.”
Specific Machines for Each Task
At Haitsma Engraving, they use different machines for various tasks to maintain efficiency and quality. For cutting wooden discs for natural burial sites, they use a separate CO2 laser. This is because cutting wood tends to make the machine dirtier, and over time, it can affect the cutting quality. For engraving wine glasses or photo coins for jewelers, they rely on dedicated machines as well, ensuring optimal performance for each specific task.
Demo at VROTECH
The demonstration took place at VROTECH in Tholen, and after that, the purchase was quickly finalized. Haitsma made sure to ask others who already owned such a machine about their experiences. Based on what he heard, he felt confident in visiting VROTECH. He had done his research beforehand, and the visit to the showroom in Tholen confirmed his instincts. The demonstration was excellent, and after that, he was certain he would move forward with the purchase.
